My wife has been after me to put our extra Superbird wing on our 69 roadrunner for quite a while. I've resisted, but finally decided that since I won't have the time to build her new Superbird clone for a while, I might as well and go ahead and do it. She has really become a wingcar nut the last few years. Even her Dodge Daytona pickup has a wing.
This Superbird wing is one that Don Currie built for me a couple of years ago. It's a steel skin over a tubular frame. He did a great job. I just don't have that type of ability. It was damaged in shipping a little so it required some body work. I hadn't noticed the damage until I decided to paint it.
I used a set of the Daytona wing braces that I've been building and selling for the last couple of years. With just some minor alterations, they worked out pretty good. I made a set of wing washers out of .090 aluminum. Should work just fine. We took the car out this afternoon and it doesn't shake or anything which was a relief. I'll check it for high speed vibrations later on. Since seeing the pics of the 69 Runner being used to mock up the Superbird, the wing doesn't look all that out of place on a 69 now.
Anyway, the wife is happy and it doesn't look all that bad. I can always remove it, weld up the holes and repaint the quarters. Actually, the paint is very thin and the entire car needs dents removed and repainted, so no big loss.

We've halted work on the Superbird clone for my wife until our Daytona clone is finished. We just received some very nice parts from Mike at Dayclona for the Superbird project. We also located an original aluminum Superbird wing. We've just purchased a complete 440 engine to use in the bird. We're getting more and more parts for this project gathered up every day.

This is the rendition of our 1969 Daytona re-creation (clone). It will resemble a real daytona right down to the operating headlamps. Most of the clones out there don't have functional headlamps. Ours will.

This is the latest on the Daytona clone build. I purchased a hollow aluminum Daytona wing from Dane Gjesdal in Oregon. It's the closest thing to a real Daytona wing. Should be back to assembling the car soon. Customer work comes first though.

The 69 Road Runner is getting closer to completion. It's in the trim shop having the headliner installed. The leather covered seats are assembled and as soon as the exhaust is installed and the a/c charged, we will start the final assembly. We started it last week and the six pack engine runs great.
We'll be painting the last of the body parts in a week or so and then start on the final interior assembly.
The car is black with a 440-6, 4 speed, black leather interior, modern a/c, 4 wheel disc brakes and magnum 500 rims. Should be a great looking ride when finished.
